Cycle Route No. 12: Vineyards and Scenery
This very easy six-kilometre ride on flat ground is great for families. Ride between the village of Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne and the town of Le Thor.
Riding through the croplands, you will find that the cypress hedges, which are often east-west orientated, serve as a windbreak, sheltering both you and the crops from the mistral.
As you approach Le Thor, you will see an old fortified monastery up on the hilltop. The Château Prieuré de Thouzon can be reached on foot and affords a magnificent 360º view stretching from the Mont Ventoux to the Alpilles by way of the Luberon!
Stop for a rest at the foot of the hill and enjoy the coolness of the Caves of Thouzon. A real underground gem, the site offers a shady picnic area.
Continuing towards the village centre, you will see the Church of Notre-Dame-du-Lac, a masterpiece of Provençal Roman art, and then the bell tower with its bell.
Leaving Le Thor, a nice easy ride brings you through the countryside to Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne.
