Here are our top three picnic spots beside the Sorgue. They are all perfect places to take advantage of the good weather and have fun in the company of family and friends.
Take advantage of the good weather and have fun in the company of family and friends alongside the Sorgue. Here are my favourite three picnic spots for you to visit.
When you arrive in the village of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, head towards the Hotel du Poète. Some of the tables are in the shade at lunchtime and that's exactly what we need right now, isn't it?
When you've finished eating, how about a game of pétanque? The court is right alongside! If you'd rather digest your meal in a less energetic manner, there's no reason at all not to have a nap on the grass, lulled by the burbling of the Sorgue.
When you arrive in the town of Thor, there are two options available to you. You can either park on the Place du Fer à Cheval or at a car park near the church. If luck is on your side, there's just a chance you might find a parking spot right beside the bridge, on Rue des Baraudes.
There is one (yes, just one!) newly-restored picnic table facing the bridge. And here's a little tip. If you aim to be there for around 12.30-1 pm, part of the table will be in the shade.
The Sorgue is magnificent here! You can even pop your bottle of wine (or fruit juice) :) into the water to cool it down. In case you weren't aware, the temperature of the Sorgue is a constant 13 ºC.
The Sorgue forks 1.5 km from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue town centre and there is an interpretative trail to take you there... But if you're carrying a lot of stuff, you can get there by car along the Avenue Voltaire Garcin and park in the free car park. There are some 15 picnic tables here and a lovely green space where the kids can run off their energy :). Take the chance to admire the beautiful scenery created by the Sorgue's two 'arms'.
