Portrait of an antique dealer in L'Isle sur la Sorgue

Isabelle Frantz welcomes us to her shop “Alkamia en Provence” known as Alchemist in Provençal, in the heart of L'Isle sur la Sorgue, Rue de la République.

Today, we are going to meet Isabelle Frantz to learn a little more about her profession as an antique dealer, her career and her pretty store on Rue de la République in the city center of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Established 5 years ago, the Alkamia store in Provence is a small gem that you must discover, you will go from surprises to surprises when you discover these unique pieces.

A story behind history

A long-time business manager, Isabelle decided at the age of 50 to stop her life at a thousand an hour to devote herself entirely to her passion, shared with her husband for more than 40 years: antiquity. It was then that the country house in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue became the main residence. Always in love with our Venise Comtadine, it was obvious for them to take more advantage of this Provençal lifestyle, on the banks of the Sorgue and very close to antique dealers, second-hand dealers, craftsmen and artists...

It wasn't planned for them to have a store, but the opportunity presented itself and they took the plunge! They particularly like having this privileged location on Rue de la République, at the Impasse de Palermo.

The secret is to always be awake

In the shop you will find furniture, paintings, objects from the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th centuries. Passionate and passionate, Isabelle likes visitors to push the door of her store out of curiosity, to discuss and discover her world, “you will only find pieces whose history, charm and aesthetics touched us”.

For them, it's a passion, a way of life, too. The watchword is going to be “poop”! That's the engine... Go hunting, go on an adventure, with no idea in mind, without ever knowing what you are going to find. Above all, it is a job of chance (or even luck), but above all, of pleasure, happiness! The secret is to always be awake.

To get supplies, maybe from merchants to merchants, by buying from individuals, at garage sales, unpacking... Sometimes, customers or visitors even offer items when they no longer want them. The means of obtaining supplies are really multiple. What you need to remember is that it is a profession in constant motion, you sell, you buy, you search, you discover...

The International Antiquity & Flea Market in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

For years, they went to L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue to attend the Fair they love so much. Years as visitors and now as exhibitors. Members of the trade union organizing the fair: the SNCAOGA (which also organizes the largest National Fair, that of Chatou). They share the same desires: to defend the interests of the profession and to highlight its image.

You can find Alkamia in Provence on a 25 m² stand in Gautier Park during the Easter Fair. Isabelle and her husband will be happy to meet you to discuss all the exceptional pieces they will offer you, authenticity above all! Each object is unique, and that is priceless!
