What to do during the weekend of Pentecost in Luberon?

Isle sur la Sorgue Tourisme has prepared a nice program to spend a pleasant weekend of Pentecost in our villages, with family or friends!

Saturday: direction Le Thor

To start the weekend well we give you an appointment at the Thor. This is where your morning starts.
You can enjoy a beautiful 6-kilometre hike, easily accessible, across the hill of Thouzon. You will find the remains of an old fortified monastery, classified as Historical Monuments: the Castle of Thouzon. You will enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Mont Ventoux and the Monts de Vaucluse. What a beautiful region!

At lunch, take a picnic break and sit on the available tables before preparing for your afternoon activity: the Caves of Thouzon.

Authentic natural ecomuseum, Les Grottes de Thouzon, labeled Caves of France, will offer you a wonderful show, with its surprising yellow and gold stalactites.
You will enjoy a guided tour of 40 minutes, exploring this timeless place. Little tip, remember to take a vest because the temperature inside the cave is about 13 degrees!

Sunday: from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse

On Sunday morning, find a must-see in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue: the Provencal market.
You will wander through this colorful and lively market that has always occupied, the heart of the city with its many exhibitors. Between local and artisanal products, there is something for everyone!

If you want to discover another village in the Luberon, then why not visit Saumane-de-Vaucluse? About 7 kilometres from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, take a 6.5-kilometre walking tour. Discover the typical dry stone houses of the perched village to admire beautiful landscapes! For history lovers, we invite you to come back in the summer to visit the imposing Château de Saumane, once fief of the family of Sade.

At noon, if you are in Saumane-de-Vaucluse, enjoy an exceptional setting and the panoramic terrace of the bistro restaurant “Haut Perché”. At L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue you can also enjoy a relaxing and cozy moment on the edge of Sorgue at “L'Instant T”. Enjoy small dishes made from fresh local produce while enjoying the freshness of the river flowing not far away.

Continue your day by heading to the mythical village of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Here you can discover the source of the Sorgue and its mysterious chasm.
The village of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is also known for its paper-making. Follow live, the steps of its manufacture by visiting the paper mill.

Monday: a day in Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne

To end your weekend in beauty, we suggest you spend your day in Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne.
Located 13 kilometers from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, this hillside village will welcome you in its typical Provencal setting.
In the morning you can enjoy the sun while strolling through its charming alleys.

At noon, we give you an appointment at the restaurant “La Maison de Celou” located on the heights of the village. You can enjoy its panoramic view that extends from Mont Ventoux to the Luberon while enjoying homemade cuisine with the flavors of Provence!

The village of Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne is also known for its vineyards. In the afternoon, for cycling enthusiasts, take a 16-kilometre walk through the vineyards on a rolling pebble hill.
Then you will reach the Thor and the Château de Thouzon, then you will head quietly to your starting point crossing the countryside.

If you are a wine lover, you can also explore and enjoy tasting sessions in the various vineyards that surround the village and which make the famous Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages-Gadagne wines labeled in 2012.
