Zero-carbon tourism: exploring L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue differently

Discover our tips for an eco-responsible stay in L'Isle sur la Sorgue and its surroundings: soft mobility, green accommodations and low-carbon activities for virtuous and sustainable tourism.

At a time when the environment, sustainable development or even zero waste are at the heart of all concerns, we give you several tips for a 'carbon-free' stay in the south of France!

Soft mobility

Your vacation starts with the means of transport you have chosen to travel. The train is undoubtedly the best choice that will adapt best to long-distance trips. If you come from Paris for example, count 2 hours 40 minutes to go Paris > Avignon.

To connect Avignon TGV station to Avignon Centre station, take the TER 'La Virgule' (Frequency: 35 roundtrips per day — Travel time: 4 minutes). Then, you have two options, the train or the bus. L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue has its own train station. In 5 minutes on foot, you will enjoy the beauty of the city center.

You can also find the Vaucluse bus network here. The big cities are well served, but for the small villages of Luberon, buses do not work all year round and the frequency remains low. Option: pedaling by bike (electric is better for hilltop villages)!

Here are the bus timetables for the area.

Responsible accommodations

Choose accommodations with the Green Key label: Camping La Sorguette and La Coutelière as well as the Cantosorgue hotel stand out for their commitment to responsible tourism. Located in a green setting on the banks of the Sorgue!

Carbon-free activities

  • Rando

What could be more natural and zero carbon than walking? Whether it's a simple stroll or a more difficult hike, the Monts de Vaucluse massif will be your ally! Follow our marked trails through the pine forests and contemplate the views over the Luberon Valley. Here, the watchwords are letting go, take a breath of fresh air and listen to nature. This environmentally friendly activity perfectly combines ecology and discovery.

  • Bicycle

Cyclotourism is indeed a carbon-free activity. Escape by bike on our circuits, easy loops await you as well as superb landscapes depending on the season: lavender, poppies, river... For cycling enthusiasts, Ventoux awaits you! We challenge you to travel by bike for short daily trips, for example: “I'm going to get the bread and pastries by bike”!

News/news: The Community of Municipalities has just installed 18 bicycle arches to promote and improve your practice. It is also possible at the Tourist Office to have your BOSCH electric bike recharged.

  • Canoe

Powered by a paddle, your canoe allows you to discover the Sorgue! We advise you to follow the following recommendation: namely to practice canoeing in Thor in high season, away from the places that are usually frequented. You will be accompanied by an instructor, passionate about nature and the entire ecosystem of the river. A soothing break on a wild course, where you will be almost “alone in the world”.

Eco-responsible advice for sustainable tourism

PRESERVING NATURE. Limit packaging during your picnics and keep your waste until the end of the walk. Remember to find out about the sorting of household waste in the town where you are staying. Also preserve the animals that have chosen the Sorgue as their habitat, such as ducks or fish... Above all, do not give them bread and let them live their lives peacefully.

EAT LOCAL! Participate equitably in local economic development by eating fresh and seasonal products grown by our producers. Meet them, directly, at home, on farms or on producers/agricultural markets. It's a successful equation because you support the local economy and it's also good for your wallet.

ZERO WASTE KIT: take the essentials in your travel bag! Inside, you could put fabric tote-bags, solid beauty treatments (cream, shampoos, etc.), an insulated bottle.

To continue this adventure, we advise you to read our guide to eco-responsible tourism.

Let's adopt a new way of traveling to save our planet, every small gesture contributes to big changes.
